At Automate 2025, Siemens AG announced a groundbreaking expansion of its industrial AI portfolio with the introduction of fully autonomous AI agents. Designed to operate within the established Siemens Industrial Copilot ecosystem, these agents mark a paradigm shift from reactive query-response systems to proactive, self-executing workflow automation.
The new architecture features an intelligent orchestrator that deploys specialized AI agents like a digital craftsman, dynamically assembling tools to solve complex tasks across design, production, and maintenance phases. Unlike conventional AI assistants, Siemens' agents operate autonomously – interpreting user intent, learning from outcomes, and integrating external systems or third-party agents as needed. Users maintain full control by selecting delegated tasks while retaining oversight.
"We're moving beyond the question-answer model to create systems that independently execute entire industrial workflows," said Rainer Brehm, CEO Factory Automation at Siemens Digital Industries. "By automating automation itself, we aim to boost customer productivity by up to 50%, redefining operational possibilities."
Ecosystem-Driven Innovation
Siemens differentiates its approach by separating user-facing Industrial Copilots from the underlying AI agents. The company is developing both digital agents and physical counterparts, including mobile robots, to create interconnected multi-agent systems. This orchestration framework enables unprecedented interoperability between Siemens-developed and third-party agents.
A dedicated marketplace on the Siemens Xcelerator platform will soon allow customers to access certified AI agents from both Siemens and external developers, accelerating adoption through plug-and-play integration.
Comprehensive Value Chain Coverage
Enhanced by AI agents, the Siemens Industrial Copilot suite now spans:
Industry Impact
Early adopters report transformative results: thyssenkrupp engineers achieved faster code development with improved quality, while Siemens' Bad Neustadt facility transformed operations through centralized data insights.
"Our AI agents connect Copilots across workflows, creating a unified system accessible to all skill levels," Brehm emphasized. "This future envisions humans and AI collaborating seamlessly – with machines handling routine tasks while people focus on innovation."
The announcement positions Siemens as a leader in Industrial AI 2.0, where autonomous agents and human expertise converge to redefine manufacturing efficiency.
